I ett samhälle som alltmer präglas av AI behöver både lärarutbildare och blivande lärare kunna förstå, använda och förhålla sig kritiskt till ny teknik.

Denna doktorandtjänst utlyses i samarbete med den nationella forskarskolan GRAITE – Forskarskolan för artificiell intelligens i lärarutbildningen. GRAITE har till uppgift att skapa kunskap om hur AI påverkar lärarutbildning och lärarens yrkesroll. En viktig utgångspunkt i GRAITE är att svensk lärarutbildning ska bidra till att lärarstudenterna utvecklar både teknisk, pedagogisk och ämnesdidaktisk kompetens, och samtidigt kan värna om skolans demokratiuppdrag. En andra utgångspunkt är att lärarutbildare kan förstå, använda och kritiskt förhålla sig till AI-tekniker – och samtidigt rusta framtidens lärare för undervisning i en skola och samhälle alltmer präglat och genomsyrat av AI.

Doktorandprojektet ska beröra AI i lärarutbildningen, företrädelsevis med ett särskilt fokus på de naturvetenskapliga ämnena och teknik (STEM). Centrala problemställningar kan röra sig på såväl policynivå som vara verksamhetsnära. Det kan medföra studier som berör ett organisations- och ledningsperspektiv såväl som studier av lärarutbildares undervisningspraktik och lärarstuderandes lärande med AI inom STEM-området.

Doktoranden knyts till forskningsprogrammet LeaDS vars inriktning handlar om lärande och digitalisering i olika samhällskontexter.

Doktorandprojektet kan exempelvis adressera hur digital teknik (t.ex. virtuell verklighet, digitala simuleringar, GenAI) kan användas i skola och lärarutbildningen för att utveckla undervisning och lärande av nutida och framtida STEM-frågor.

Detta kan innebära forskningsprojekt som handlar om exempelvis simulering och visualisering i undervisning i STEM-ämnena eller användandet av generativ AI, virtuella laborationer och AR/VR i undervisningen, i skolan respektive i lärarutbildningen. Ansökningar som relaterar till ämnesövergripande problemställningar inom utbildning kopplad till digitalisering, AI och STEM är välkomna.

Innehåll och arbetsuppgifter??? 
Behörig att anställas som doktorand är den som antas eller redan har antagits till en forskarutbildning vid en högskola (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 3 §).

För att bli antagen till utbildning på forskarnivå krävs att den sökande har grundläggande behörighet och den särskilda behörighet som krävs av ämnet, samt att sökanden bedöms ha sådan förmåga i övrigt som behövs för att tillgodogöra sig utbildningen.

Grundläggande behörighet för utbildning på forskarnivå (enligt HF 7 kap. § 39) har den som:

- har avlagt en examen på avancerad nivå
- har fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng, varav minst 60 högskolepoäng på avancerad nivå, eller på något annat sätt inom eller utom landet har förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper

Särskild behörighet

- För behörighet att antas som studerande till utbildning på forskarnivå i informatik digitalt lärande vid Högskolan i Halmstad krävs att studenten avlagt examen på avancerad nivå (eller fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng, varav minst 60 högskolepoäng på avancerad nivå) inom informatik, informationssystem, interaktionsdesign, datavetenskap, utbildningsvetenskap eller annat område som bedöms relevant för forskarutbildningsämnet.

Vidare bör den sökande ha goda kunskaper i att tala och skriva svenska och engelska.

Lärarutbildning och/eller professionserfarenhet som lärare är meriterande.

Urvalskriterier 
Vid bedömning av behöriga bedöms sökandes förmåga att tillgodogöra sig utbildningen. Hänsyn tas till sökandes självständighet, samarbetsförmåga, planering och förmåga att slutföra tidigare arbeten; sökandes förmåga att kunna formulera undersöknings- och problemområden, både i tidigare arbeten och i forskningsplanen för det planerade avhandlingsarbetet; grad av metodologisk och vetenskaplig mognad i tidigare utförda arbeten, samt i forskningsplanen, förmåga till kommunikation, både skriftligt och muntligt. Vid granskningen bedöms också relevansen av planerad forskningsinriktning i relation till forskarskolans prioriterade områden.

En avsiktsförklaring om max fyra A4-sidor ska bifogas ansökan. Avsiktsförklaringen ska innehålla en reflektion över det problemområde och frågor som den sökande anser intressanta och relevanta att forska om i relation till forskarskolans inriktning.

Description


The PhD student will conduct cutting-edge research to develop a novel Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) framework capable of proactively identifying sophisticated image-borne threats, such as zero-day and zero-click exploits embedded within image data. Key research activities will include:

- Designing and training MLLM architectures to fuse diverse data modalities (visual, structural, byte-level).
- Developing and applying unsupervised learning techniques to detect novel threats without prior signatures.
- Investigating methods for the MLLM to infer attacker intent from detected anomalies.
- Creating novel Explainable AI (XAI) techniques to generate trustworthy and actionable explanations for security analysts.

The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the supervisory team at Halmstad University, co-supervisor at Stockholm University, and our industrial partners to ensure the research is grounded in real-world cybersecurity challenges.   

This is a full-time position available from October 1st, 2025, for a period of four years to a PhD degree (extended with one year after one year, subject to satisfactory progress of the PhD study). Since the employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time, the position is extended with the same amount of time as the teaching activities.  



Qualifications

- The ideal candidate has a master's degree in machine learning or related discipline. 
- A strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining, or signal processing is desirable.

Description
The PhD student is expected to do research, in one or more cutting-edge AI/ML topics, including data mining, context-aware systems, knowledge-based intelligent systems, representation learning, meta-learning, transfer learning, multi-task, self-supervised and weakly-supervised learning, federated learning, anomaly detection, synthetic data generation, graph neural networks, evaluation, and more.

In this era of technological advancement, the focus has shifted towards more efficient and environmentally responsible monitoring of industrial systems. The integration of AI/ML analytics is paramount for prompt identification of inefficient and suboptimal operations, especially given the always-increasing complexity of modern systems and the demands on environmentally sustainable operations. This creates significant challenges for the industry since it often means technology shifts (e.g., electric vehicles or new fuel mixes) where learning must be done from prohibitively few examples. Previously reliant on labour-intensive human input (supervised ML), the paradigm is shifting towards automated, self-regulating systems requiring minimal human oversight. These systems are characterised by the need to understand and capture context while learning from available operational data, typically with only a handful of human expert labels attached, to identify and address issues autonomously. The necessary next step is AI/ML methods that can process the available data, which are largely unlabelled and only superficially understood. This research will be connected to the KEEPER project.

Description


The main duties are research studies and third cycle courses. The work duties can also include teaching and other departmental duties up to 20%. 

The focus of the current collaborative Halmstad/Lund PhD project is design, processing and electrical/optical characterization of novel state-of-the art photodetectors and related brain-inspired optical synapses. The devices are based on single- or large arrays (millions) of complex needle-like semiconductor structures called nanowires.
The PhD project, financially supported by the prestigious Swedish Research Council,  is highly collaborative and includes advanced fabrication of state-of-the art sensors in clean rooms at Lund University (NanoLund/Lund Nano Lab) and in-depth characterization of sensor performance at Halmstad University (Rydberg Lab). The project is furthermore part of a large, recently launched Swedish research effort in advanced heterogeneous integration of electronics and photonics on commercial silicon platforms (Advanced Chip Technology).

This is a full-time position available from June 1st, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter), for a period of four years to a PhD degree (annually extended with one year, subject to satisfactory progress of the PhD study). Since the employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time, the position is extended with the same amount of time as the teaching activities. 

The selected PhD student will be responsible for conducting research within the project and for participating in the required PhD course activities.  The PhD student will work in an environment of international researchers with diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

The suitable candidate has a Master´s degree in physics, engineering physics, engineering nanoscience or electrical engineering.
Selection to postgraduate studies is based on the expected ability to perform well in the PhD studies.

The evaluation of the ability is based primarily on the results of studies at the basic and advanced levels, in particular:

•    Written and oral communication skills
•    Other experience relevant to postgraduate studies, such as professional experience.

Other merits:
• Being able to quickly assimilate new techniques and knowledge is an advantage.
• Undergraduate degrees should include courses in solid state physics, semiconductor physics, optoelectronics and nanoscience.
• A good ability to work in a laboratory is essential and experience of relevant experimental work such as clean room processing, material and component analysis, and microscopy is meritorious.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his or her experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third-cycle program.

Arbetsuppgifter


Vi söker en postdoktor till ett forskningsprojekt med målet att utvärdera lokal och regional populationsstruktur hos laxfiskar, samt huruvida eDNA (environmental DNA) kan användas för att bestämma både populationsstruktur och populationsstorlek för lax (Salmo salar) och öring (S. trutta).

Effektiv förvaltning av fiskbestånd bygger på biologisk övervakning som kartlägger beståndens storlek, struktur och sammansättning. Under senare år har analys av DNA i miljön (eDNA, environmental DNA) använts som en metod för att bestämma artsammansättning i fiskbestånd. eDNA skulle även kunna användas för att bestämma storlek av och genetisk struktur i fiskpopulationer. I detta projekt kommer du, tillsammans med projektgruppen att 1) undersöka lokal och regional populationsstruktur med RADseq samt utvärdera om olika genetiska metoder för identifiering av intraspecifika genetiska skillnader (RADseq and mtDNA) ger jämförbar populationsstruktur, 2) utvärdera om analys av eDNA ger samma upplösning som vävnadsprover med avseende på intraspecifika skillnader mellan populationer och 3) utvärdera om eDNA-kvantitet korrelerar med abundans och/eller biomassa beräknat med elfiske.

Det är en tvåårig tjänst med möjlighet till förlängning med ytterligare ett år om behov finns.

Forskningsmiljö

Projektet är finansierat av anslag från Naturvårdsverket och FORMAS. Du kommer att vara stationerad vid Högskolan i Halmstad, och handledas av Johanna Sjöstedt och Martin Lind. Vissa arbetsuppgifter kommer att utföras vid Lunds Universitet. Projektet samarbetar med och kompletterar ett nyligen finansierat EU LIFE projekt Improve Aquatic LIFE där Lunds universitet, genom Anders Nilsson, är en partner tillsammans med flera länsstyrelser, universitet och myndigheter. Projektet erbjuder därmed stora möjligheter att etablera ett brett nätverk inom såväl akademin som med det omgivande samhället.

Kvalifikationer

Vi söker en motiverad, självständig, pålitlig och konceptuellt intresserad postdoktor, med god förmåga att hantera stora experiment och hålla tidsramar.

För att anställas med stöd av postdoktors-avtalet krävs att den sökande har en doktorsexamen, eller en internationell examen som bedöms likvärdig med en doktorsexamen, inom Biologi, Genetik eller relaterat ämne. Intyget som styrker detta behörighetskrav ska vara inlämnat innan anställningsbeslutet fattas. I första hand bör de som tagit examen senaste tre år före sista ansökningsdag komma ifråga för anställning. Under särskilda omständigheter, ledighet på grund av sjukdom, föräldraledighet eller liknande omständigheter, kan doktorsexamen ha avlagts tidigare. 

Övriga kvalifikationer

Det är ett krav att du har;

- dokumenterad erfarenhet av laborativt arbete
- dokumenterad erfarenhet av publicering i internationella vetenskapliga tidskrifter
- goda kunskaper i biostatistisk och/eller bioinformatisk programmering i relevanta språk (som R, Python eller liknande)
- visad förmåga att arbeta både självständigt och i grupp
- mycket goda kunskaper i engelska i tal och skrift

Det är meriterande att du har;

- erfarenhet av molekylärgenetisk laborativt arbete (t.ex. qPCR, analys av eDNA, RADseq och/eller mtDNA)
- erfarenhet av bioinformatik

Beskrivning
Tjänsten innebär forskarstudier inom området planering av arbetskraft i vård och omsorgssektorn. Projektet syftar till att undersöka hur AI applikationer kan bidra till att hantera utmaningar med bemanning och planering av arbetskraft inom vård och omsorg. Institutionstjänstgöring om max 20% kan komma att ingå i tjänsten. Tjänsten kommer  placeras inom Healthcare improvement-gruppen som har en nationellt ledande position inom implementeringsvetenskap och AI inom vården. Forskningen kommer utföras i samarbete med både näringsliv och offentliga partners.

Bedömningsgrunder
Behörig att anställas som doktorand är den som antas eller redan har antagits till en forskarutbildning vid en högskola. (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 3§). Vid tillsättning av anställningen kommer avseende att fästas vid sökandes förmåga att tillgodogöra sig utbildningen på forskarnivå (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 5§).

Övriga bedömningsgrunder
Magister/masterutbildning inom hälsovetenskap, samhällsvetenskap, humaniora, vårdvetenskap eller annat område med relevans för implementeringsvetenskap och informationsdriven vård. Stark analytisk förmåga och kritiskt tänkande, förmåga att arbeta såväl självständigt som att samverka, god kommunikationsförmåga samt förmåga att kommunicera på svenska och engelska i både tal och skrift. Det är meriterande med tidigare erfarenhet av forskning.

PhD student in innovation science with focus on Energy efficiency and resource management.

Description


The PhD student will focus on research directed towards application, development and analysis of data-driven methods for increased energy efficiency in district heating systems. Two different main areas are included. Where the emphasis should lie is partly determined by the focus and interest of the candidate:

The first main area focuses on investigating the innovation potential for new applications of data-driven technology, for example generative AI, in the district heating sector. What characterizes companies that succeed in implementing data-driven technology? What are the challenges and driving forces? What does the implementation look like in the district heating sector specifically? What examples are there? How have these applications been implemented? Where are the greatest efficiency potentials and how are these identified?

The second main area aims to carry out implementation case studies for example with known automated fault detection methods in the interface between district heating network and customer (district heating substation) as well as in building internal systems for space heating and domestic hot water. What are these methods and how can companies active in the district heating sector use them and participate in innovation ecosystems in cooperation with other actors for increased competitiveness?

Regarding doctoral studies, the PhD student has an opportunity to influence which PhD courses are to be taken, in agreement with the main supervisor who is ultimately responsible. Suitable courses depend on which research focus will be relevant as well as compulsory courses within the doctoral education.

Institutional work primarily involves teaching and courses in which the student can conceivably participate are GIS, District Heating Technology, Energy Supply, Installation Technology and other primarily energy-related courses. Usually, the doctoral student participates as an exercise leader or lab supervisor, but also lectures and in some cases course responsibility may be relevant

The employment is initially funded for 2 years, making it possible to achieve a Licentiate degree. To pursue a full PhD degree, the candidate and supervisors are obliged to apply for additional funding.

Qualifications
A university degree at advanced (Master's) level in a relevant field of study, comprising of at least four years of study (240 ECTS credits), whereof at least 60 ECTS credits at advanced (Master's) level (or equivalent). By the start of the enrollment in the PhD program, the candidate must also have completed a degree project (thesis) at advanced (Master's) level, representing at least one term of study (30 ECTS credits).

Other requirements

- Master degree with a focus in e.g. energy, physics, mechanics, data or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English. 

Meritorious

The position will be located within the Healthcare improvement group that holds a nationally leading position within implementation science and AI in healthcare. The research will be executed in collaboration with Patient Safety and Human Factors research at Nottingham University. The doctoral position includes a total of at least 6 months of research visit at Nottingham University.

As a doctoral student, you may for example perform the following work tasks; conduct systematic literature reviews, formulate research questions, work creatively to find solutions, write academic texts, analyze complex issues, collaborate with researchers from other fields, industry and healthcare, discuss your own and other peoples work, take part in course work etc. Your research results should be continuously reported at international research conferences and seminars, leading to a doctoral degree. To succeed as a doctoral student in this project, you need to act professionally in your role and work independently with the guidance of supervisors and other competencies involved in the project.

Description
The research will be done in collaboration (co-supervision) with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK) where the doctoral student is expected to do research visits on average two months per year during the doctoral studies. The research will be focused on developing a unified framework for multimodal large language models (LLM) for healthcare. The framework should, for example, be able to handle lack of data or data alignment and mitigate medical biases.

Description
We currently have post-doctoral position available in Information driven care and Innovation Sciences. This is a two year position with a possibility to extension with one year if additional external funding is received.

Information driven care is a research program at Halmstad University that focuses on the digital transformation of healthcare, typically by interacting with industry and the healthcare sector. The program has a multi-disciplinary perspective on the complexity of information driven solutions, such as clinical decision support systems or other AI-solutions, by focusing on innovation, technological development, and implementation.



Principal duties
The primary duty involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct high-quality research. Teaching may be included, but not exceeding 20% of working hours. The position shall consist of the opportunity for formal training in higher education.

The research involves taking part in ongoing or new projects in the research program. The focus for this position will be on the management of development and use of generative AI for health innovation, such as large language models or code generation, from an innovation perspective. The research include collection and analysis of primary and secondary data using mixed methods, and writing high-quality scholarly articles related to innovation management. 

The candidate will be involved in applying for external research funding and engagements with national and international research communities.

Teaching duties include providing guidance and support to MSc or PhD students associated with the project in Innovation Sciences and teaching classes in Industrial Management and Innovation.?????

The applicant needs to demonstrate a strong research profile in the fields related to topics of interest for this position, including recent activities with high impact. The scientific production is expected to be published in high-quality, peer-reviewed research journals and conferences. Documented experience from innovation, research and development in an industrial environment is also a strong merit. Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. Description


The student will focus on developing new methods in static analysis to achieve verifiable energy efficiency of software written in Java, following the topic of our new project on Static Analysis of Energy Usage in Software funded by ELLIIT (https://elliit.se/). The concrete context of this work is program logic and symbolic execution-based verification of software. Thus the core work comprises the development of corresponding extensions to design-by-contract style annotation languages and the program logic (reasoning engine) itself, as well as evaluating the project results using suitable case studies. Further objectives of the project include developing supplementary static software analysis techniques based on declarative program analysis and profiling the corresponding execution environment to collect the necessary energy-use data for the development and validation of the theoretical parts of the project.

The PhD student is expected to undertake independent research and publish results at suitable venues, such as peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. Any necessary implementation work to extend the software verification and validation tools is also expected from the student.

This PhD position is full-time and available from August 1st 2023 (or as soon as possible). It is fully funded for five years to a PhD degree (extended yearly, subject to satisfactory progress of the PhD study). The selected PhD student will be responsible for conducting research within the project and for participating in the required PhD course activities. The employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time. The PhD student will work in an environment of international researchers with diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

The candidate must hold at least a Master's degree in Computer Science, alternatively Computer Engineering, or an equivalent subject. Strong merit is if the candidate has passed courses in advanced mathematics (including logics), advanced programming, and ideally courses related to program analysis, program verification and/or validation.
From the candidate we expect:

- to have strong analytical skills,
- to be technically skilled in programming,
- to have experience or background in logics, formal reasoning, and program analysis,
- to be strongly motivated, show and justify strong interest in the topic described above,
- the ability to work both independently and in a small cross-university team formed with Lund University,
- to be highly proficient in the verbal and written use of English (depending on the candidate's profile, a certificate may be required).

Salary

Beskrivning
Anställningen som doktorand avser egen forskarutbildning inom området informatik. Studier på forskarutbildning bedrivs på heltid men eventuell institutionstjänstgöring på sjuksköterske- eller socionomutbildningen på max 20 % kan förekomma. Forskarutbildningen innebär genomförande av ett självständigt avhandlingsarbete, samt deltagande i forskarutbildningens kurser, seminarier och andra aktiviteter.

Ämnesbeskrivning 
Informatik är ett ämne inom området informationsteknologi som förenar teknikutveckling, design och tjänsteperspektiv på informationsteknologi, och syftar till att utveckla teorier och begrepp för att analysera, beskriva, förstå och designa ny IT-användning. Informatik inriktas på olika aspekter av design, organisering och användning av IT på såväl individuell och organisatorisk som samhällelig nivå. Metodmässigt spänner ämnet i huvudsak från användarstudier, empiriska fallstudier till experimentella undersökningar och designstudier.

Arbetsuppgifter
I det aktuella doktorandprojektet undersöks hur virtuella case kan utvecklas och implementeras i utbildning för att stimulera studenters och/eller yrkesverksamma sjuksköterskors eller socionomers professionella förmåga att hantera komplexa situationer som kan uppstå i den professionella vardagen. Projektet "virtuella case som verktyg för professionell utveckling inom vård, omsorg och socialt arbete” handlar om datorbaserad visualisering av olika autentiska och komplexa situationer som kan uppstå i yrket och som kan upplevas som problematiska eller komplexa att lösa. I doktorandprojektet designas virtuella cases anpassade för målgruppen, implementeras och utvärderas med avseende på hur studenter inom omvårdnad och/eller socialt arbete utvecklar sina professionella kunskaper och färdigheter.

Kvalifikationer
Behörig att anställas som doktorand är den som är antagen till en forskarutbildning vid en högskola. (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 3§). Description
This PhD position is part of the Awesome project. 

The selected PhD student will carry out research in collaboration with other members of the Awesome research group.

The research topics are connected to the Awesome project, where the goal is to develop an advanced digital communication platform for Volvo Group that optimizes data collection, analysis, and content creation across interal and external communication channels. To achive this goal, the research revolves around Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods and adopting and tuning Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPTs, BERT, and RoBERTa. Moreover, since the adoption of LLMs is to be customized for Volvo Group's needs, Reinforcement Learning (RL) is used to customize LLMs based user feedbacks more effectively. Last but not least, Explainable AI (XAI) would be an integral part of the designed digital platform, as transparency in NLP model's decision and reasoning behind generating content is of massive importance.     

The employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

This is a full-time position available from August 1st 2023 (or as soon as possible) for a period of four years to a PhD degree (extended with one year after one year, subject to satisfactory progress of the PhD study).

Description

The School of Information Technology (ITE) is looking for a doctoral student who can contribute to the project SPINE (Smart Public Transport Initiatives for Climate-Neutral Cities in Europe), funded by Horizon Europe. The project runs until 2026-12-31. SPINE’s vision is to accelerate the progress towards climate neutrality by reinforcing public transport (PT) systems through their smart integration with new mobility services, sharing schemes, active transport modes, and micromobility. SPINE adopts an equity centred co-design approach, leading the transition to a more efficient, sustainable, resilient, and inclusive PT system. A network of 11 collaborative Urban Living Labs is developed to foster transferability and participatory modes of design, while an intersectional view of the transport system users is applied. SPINE sets a high ambitious plan for the co-design and implementation of 55 smart greens inclusive mobility solutions. The SPINE consortium brings together a multidisciplinary team of 39 partners from 16 countries.

The doctoral student will be involved in developing Living Lab methodologies and evaluating these within the SPINE network. The Ph.D. project enables studies within informatics related to topics such as participatory design, knowledge creation and co-design, digital innovation and transformation, social sustainability in digital design, and ethical and sustainable service design. The Ph.D. position will be connected to the Re-Imagining Future Smart Living (REBEL) research initiative at Halmstad University.

The position is full-time and funded for two years (licentiate degree). If more funds are acquired within the next two years and the doctoral education is conducted as expected, there will be a possibility to be admitted to a full doctoral degree. The position can include 80% research and 20% teaching at bachelor or master level programs within relevant areas at Halmstad University. If so, the position is extended with the same amount of time as the teaching activities (30 months in total).

Qualifications

The candidate should have a master’s degree in Scandinavian informatics or related fields with a focus on design and qualitative research, and fluency in speaking and writing English on a working professional level. Fluency in speaking and writing Swedish is meriting.

Experience in participatory design, service design, documented participation in interdisciplinary research, and proven qualifications in cross-sectoral collaborations is meriting.

Description
This PhD position is part of the CAISR project. 

The selected PhD student will carry out research in collaboration with other members of the CAISR research group, across a variety of cutting-edge AI/ML topics, including representation learning, meta-learning transfer learning, multi-task, self-supervised and weakly-supervised learning, anomaly detection, deep learning, and more.

An example is jointly learning data representations that are useful for multiple tasks, allowing for autonomous adaptation to a specific task. This is an important topic as it allows for autonomous adaptation to a specific task, by learning features that are most appropriate.

The importance of explainability for AI/ML models is also growing. We are developing several different types of explanations (anything from visual analytics through prototypical examples to deductive argumentative systems) for different applications, such as healthcare or predictive maintenance. One challenge is to demonstrate how the right explanations of decisions made by AI systems lead to better results across several dimensions, including identifying where the problem has occurred; understanding the severity and future consequences of detected deviations; choosing the optimal treatment, repair or maintenance based on different priorities; and understanding the reasons why the problem has occurred in the first place as a way to improve for the future.

Other directions of CAISR research include physics-informed machine learning, aware systems research and autonomous knowledge creation

Arbetsuppgifter
Det övergripande syftet med doktorandprojektet är att kartlägga hur Muråns dränering och ekologi påverkar Bolmens pelagiska näringsnät och om konstruerade våtmarker kan påverka näringsämnesavlägsnande och i så fall hur avlägsnas brunifieringen effektivast.

Doktoranden kommer att samla in och analysera data samt genomföra och utvärdera experiment inom våtmarksforskning i samarbete med Bolmens forskningsstation.  Doktoranden förväntas ge rekommendationer om våtmarksdesign för att minska brunifieringen av Bolmens vatten. Doktoranden förväntas att i nära samarbete med övriga medarbetare skriva och sammanställa rapporter på svenska och artiklar på engelska. Uppdraget sker i samarbete med Sweden Water Research och Svenska Sydvatten AB. 

Kvalifikationer
Behörig att anställas som doktorand är den som är antagen till en forskarutbildning vid en högskola. (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 3§). För denna anställning gäller även att tidigare utbildningsområde ska ha fokus miljövetenskap, limnologi eller motsvarande.

Arbetsuppgifter
Anställningen som doktorand innefattar forskarstudier (80%) samt institutionstjänstgöring (20%). Forskarstudierna kan i sin tur delas upp i forskning (vanligtvis 75%) och doktorandkurser (vanligtvis 25%).
Forskningens huvudinriktning är att utveckla samt testa en forskningsbaserad prototyp av ett ML (machine learning) - system för att förebygga arbetsplatsolyckor i ett entreprenadföretag. Projektets primära fokus ligger på förebyggandet av olyckor samt att skapa djupare förståelse om orsakerna till arbetsolyckor.
Utöver för forskarutbildningen obligatoriska doktorandkurser är det ytterst huvudhandledaren som bestämmer kurser, men doktoranden har vanligtvis själv möjlighet att påverka. Lämpliga doktorandkurser kan även bero på vilket lärosäte doktoranden blir inskriven på, då det vanligtvis finns en eller två obligatoriska kurser inom en forskarutbildning.
Institutionstjänstgöring innebär i första hand undervisning och kurser inom både byggkonstruktion och byggproduktion.

Specifika kvalifikationer för denna anställning
Behörig att söka är den som besitter fördjupade kunskaper på LIC nivå om Maskin inlärning och data om arbetsolycksfall samt analys- och förebyggandemetoder.

Description
The selected PhD students will carry out research on developing AI-based novel sensor denoising and adaptive fusion approaches to have robust in-vehicle perception algorithms for autonomous vehicles.  More specifically, the PhD works involve the following topics:

- Developing a novel generative deep neural network model to detect, identify, and filter out noisy Camera, LiDAR, and RADAR readings affected by rain, fog, snow, and slush.
- Developing a novel adaptive sensor fusion algorithm based on optimum cost-effective sensor combinations to handle possible sensor failures in a multi sensor setup.

Description
This PhD position is part of a project in collaboration with Volvo Trucks. The selected PhD student will focus on using machine learning (ML) to identify moments of potential significance in truck journeys, building a holistic context of the truck usage situations and driver journeys. The data to be used includes vehicle data (e.g. Vehicle CAN BUS and Driver Interaction Input data). We are also seeking to include during the project video data from digital cameras inside / around trucks. The research will be in cooperation with another PhD student working in User Experience (UX), where the ML-discovered moments of significance will become actionable insights that lead to better trucks, and the improvement of commercial mobility.

The employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

This is a full-time position available from September 1st 2022 (or as soon as possible) for a period of two years to a licentiate degree(extended with one year after one year, subject to satisfactory progress of the PhD study). With possibility to extension to a doctoral degree if additional funding is received during the next two years and the doctoral program continues satisfactory.

Description
We seek a PhD candidate in Innovation Science to conduct research on the opportunities and limitations with innovative ICT solutions for sustainable development. The work will include a combination of desk research and field studies. This study is part of a larger multidisciplinary project that seeks to provide a framework for organizations to adopt ICT as a foundation for co-creation of business model innovation.The research includes collaboration with other scientists within the field of Business, Sustainability, and Innovation from Halmstad University and local industry partners. 

The selected PhD candidate will be responsible for conducting research within projects linked to sustainable business models for farmers and to infrastructure such as water management with a focus on sustainable ecosystems. Research and development are carried out at collaboration labs (living labs) with a focus on collaboration between researchers, entrepreneurs, government representatives and students.

The research is linked to several research projects in the area, which includes collaboration with local, regional and national partners as well as international partners. Research will be carried out within the framework of the research projects, which also includes follow-up, reporting and reporting of project initiatives, such as scientific contributions and articles. The employment also include teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time, which, among other things, connects to collaboration in innovation to strengthen the education and the connection to industrial collaboration and research. Furthermore, the doctoral students will contribute to new initiatives regarding the development of courses and research projects in collaboration with external parties, such as research applications and development projects. Development projects in educational activities can relate to new opportunities with the help of digital aids.

This is a full-time position available as soon as possible. The employment refers to postgraduate education up to the licentiate degree with the possibility of extension until the doctoral degree provided that admission to the doctoral degree is complete, satisfactory study results have been achieved and that continued funding is available

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a two-year master’s degree in industrial management or a related discipline as well as experience of working in an academic environment with conducting surveys and analyzes of qualitative as well as quantitative studies. Teaching experience is an advantage, especially at the advanced level in the field of industrial management.

It is desirable that applicants have practical and documented experience of leading the work with a focus on collaboration between industry and higher education. Furthermore, it is an advantage if applicants have experience of research studies, for example PhD courses, participation in research projects, having applied for grants in competition with others, etc. Practical experience of implementing innovation projects, such as development of new product / service solutions is a desirable. When it comes to research, it is an advantage to have knowledge in technology development and business models.

Excellent organisational skills, analytical problem solving and organizational abilities are required. Prior practical experience from industry is a plus. Another merit is experience of working with technology development in terms of ICT solutions to build sustainable systems for analysis and measurement of water quality. It is also important that applicants have social skills and a good ability to work together to be able to interact with different partners. The applicant also needs to have knowledge of the university's internal and administrative system, as some tasks will involve both education and digitization of education.

Only persons who are being admitted, or already have been admitted, to doctoral studies at an institution of higher education may be appointed doctoral students. (The Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, § 3). The student’s ability to benefit from doctoral studies will be taken into account when we make the appointment. Villkor
Doktorandanställningen omfattar fyra års heltidsstudier och avslutas med en doktorsexamen.
Anställningen som doktorand kan med 20% institutionstjänstgöring, exempelvis med
undervisningsuppdrag eller administrativa uppgifter, sträcka sig över fem år. Tillträde i januari eller enligt överenskommelse. För att anställning ska bli aktuell krävs du blir antagen till forskarutbildning samt att erforderliga beslut fattas. Lönen för doktorandanställningen följer den av Högskolan i Halmstads fastställda lönestegen för doktorander.

Behörighet
För att bli antagen till utbildning på forskarnivå krävs att den sökande har grundläggande behörighet och eventuell särskild behörighet som högskolan kan ha föreskrivit.

Grundläggande behörighet har den som avlagt en examen på avancerad nivå, fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng, varav minst 60 högskolepoäng på avancerad nivå, eller som på annat sätt inom eller utom landet har förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper. Högskolan kan för en enskild sökande medge undantag från kravet på grundläggande behörighet om det finns särskilda skäl. Om särskilda skäl åberopas skall dessa motiveras i ansökan.
Utöver grundläggande behörighet till utbildning på forskarnivå får krav på särskild behörighet
ställas. Krav på särskild behörighet ska vara helt nödvändiga för att forskarstuderande ska kunna tillgodogöra sig utbildning på forskarnivå (högskoleförordningen 7 kapitel 40 §). För att antas till utbildning på forskarnivå i tillämpad informationsteknologi med inriktning mot utbildningsvetenskap krävs följande:

- Att den sökande fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 45 hp inom tillämpad informationsteknologi eller annat ämne med relevans för tillämpad informationsteknologi med inriktning mot utbildningsvetenskap, varav minst 30 hp på avancerad nivå och lärarexamen samt ett examensarbete om minst 15 hp på avancerad nivå, eller på något annat sätt inom eller utom landet förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper.

Vid urvalet bland behöriga sökande tas i första hand hänsyn till:

- förmåga att tillgodogöra sig utbildningen
- tidigare studieresultat
- kvaliteten på inskickad forskningsplan, i relation till inriktningen på den utlysta doktorandtjänsten

Följande bedömningsgrunder tillämpas vid prövning av förmågan att tillgodogöra sig utbildningen:

Description

At the School of Business, Innovation and Sustainability (FIH), transdisciplinary research on innovation science and renewable energy technologies and systems contributes to the sustainable development of urban areas. The School is looking for an independent and creative researcher interested in integrated approaches to facilitate energy transition from traditional energy systems to decarbonization.

Relevant fields of research are, but are not limited to, energy systems studies, transition studies, innovation systems studies and business ecosystems studies. To secure a sustainable future, the energy sector, together with suppliers and customers, need to rapidly transform from fossil dependency to relying on renewable energy sources. This post doc position will focus on the socio-technical processes required to enable this transition. This position will make part of and combine Halmstad University’s strong research in renewable energy and innovation science.

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research and disseminate scientific results (publications, conferences). Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20 % of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The postdoctoral fellow will also contribute to the development of a research program on the transformation from fossil fuel-based energy systems to renewable energy systems.

Qualifications

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

- PhD in Innovation Research in relation to energy systems or Energy Systems research in relation to innovation or other relevant discipline.

Arbetsuppgifter

Forskningen inom den postdoktorala anställningen inriktas mot utvecklingen av hållbar ekonomi med särskilt fokus på investeringsbedömningar, tariffkonstruktion och företagsekonomisk uppföljning/redovisning. Forskningen är empiriskt orienterad och karaktäriseras av problemlösning, tillämpbarhet och relevans.

Projektet sker i samarbete med en extern, lokal samarbetspartner som har som sin kärnverksamhet att tillhandahålla samhälleliga bastjänster. Hållbarhet generellt, och resurseffektivitet mer specifikt, är huvudsakligt mål för projektets externa samarbetspartner.

Arbetsuppgifterna innebär att självständigt och i samarbete med övriga projektmedlemmar, inklusive samarbetspartner, genomföra ekonomiska utvärderingar inom projektets områden. Detta innefattar att genomföra datainsamlingar, utföra analyser av insamlade data, författa vetenskapliga manuskript och delta i interaktion med projektets samarbetspartner.

Arbetsuppgifterna inkluderar upp till 20% undervisning på grundläggande och avancerad nivå i företagsekonomi. Undervisning kan ske på både svenska och engelska. Ett annat skandinaviskt språk accepteras som huvudspråk om personen kan göra sig förstådd vid undervisning av svensktalande studenter.

Det är även meriterande med erfarenhet och kompetens inom såväl kvantitativ som kvalitativ metodik, samt av att utveckla, implementera och utvärdera interventioner. Arbetet sker i projektgrupp varför samarbetsförmåga och flexibilitet tillmäts stor betydelse. Goda kunskaper i svenska och engelska är ett krav.

Stor vikt kommer att fästas vid förmågan att genomföra forskning inom det beskrivna området. Stor vikt läggs vid personlig lämplighet. Hänsyn kommer också att tas till goda samarbetsförmåga, drivkraft och oberoende, och hur den sökandes erfarenheter och färdigheter kompletterar och stärker pågående forskning inom avdelningen, och hur de kan bidra till dess framtida utveckling.

The research should be related to the Sustainable Development Goals and the transition to a fossil-free society based on the reprocessing of natural resources and ecosystem services.

Activities span from creating and capturing value from bio-based resources and residual streams and transforming these into fossil-free systems or to lead/manage business development processes in cooperation with stakeholders to support sustainable value creation and policy development. The interdisciplinary research can also deal with business model development/transformation based on resource efficiency and ecosystem services. Altogether, the research should contribute to the sustainability transition through collaboration with private and public organizations as well as civil actors.

Beskrivning

Arbetsuppgifter
Anställningen avser egen forskarutbildning inom området hälsa och livsstil inom projektet enligt nedan. Som doktorand förväntas du att under handledning arbeta aktivt med eget avhandlingsarbete, gå forskarutbildningskurser, aktivt bidra till forskningsmiljöns utveckling, delta i vetenskapliga seminarier samt att samarbeta med andra doktorander och forskare inom området. Doktorandstudierna kommer genomföras inom projektet ”Sömnens betydelse för välbefinnandet hos barn med ADHD - utvärdering av en sömnintervention”, som är ett pågående projekt i samverkan med BUP i Region Halland. Projektet avser att utvärdera en sömnintervention med tyngdtäcke hos barn mellan 6–13 år med nydiagnostiserad ADHD och sömnbesvär. Fyra delstudier genomförs med syfte att utforska sömninterventionens hälsoeffekter, kostnadseffektivitet och upplevelser utifrån barnens respektive föräldrarnas perspektiv. Studien är en randomiserad placebokontrollerad interventionsstudie, med cross-over design. Resultatet syftar till att främja hälsa och livsvillkor och förebygga ohälsa samt att utveckla vård och behandling för barn med ADHD genom att utvärdera evidensen för effekten av tyngtäcke vid sömnbesvär.

Behörighet

Description


The selected PhD student will carry out research on multi-task representation learning (i.e. jointly learning data representations that are useful for multiple tasks). This is an important topic as it allows for autonomous adaptation to a specific task, by learning features that are most appropriate.

From the application perspective, vehicles generate a large amount of raw sensor data that need to mapped into low-dimensional representation, as using the original raw data (e.g. for predictive maintenance) is not feasible. The overall goal is to extract general features which are suitable for more than one task, for example, estimating the health state of several different components. Since those components can be related to different aspects of the vehicle operation, the representations that allow accurate predictions are related, but not necessarily the same.

From the method perspective, a training setup is considered, in which not one, but rather multiple related tasks are provided. The PhD student will work on developing deep neural networks and methods for generating families of diverse representations from the set of training tasks. This is still a challenge, and most existing works rely on either supervised learning of a representation tailored towards a single task, or on unsupervised learning of a representation that captures general features but may not be well-suited to future tasks. The employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

This is a full-time position available from September 1st 2021 (or as soon as possible afterwards) for a period of four years (extended one year at a time, subject to satisfactory progress of the Ph.D. study). Enough resources to fund experiments and conference travels are available. 

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, robotics, mathematics, or a related engineering discipline. A strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining, or signal processing is desirable. Background
Recent growth in the research activities and the well-established educational programs of the School of Information Technology (ITE) is enabling a significant expansion.

In 2018 the total research expenditures exceeded 70 MSEK and the school hosted over 850 students. Over the next two years, the School will grow significantly. 

The global commercialization of 5G is currently taking off. Both academia and industry are now actively looking into beyond 5G systems, to identify service requirements, key drivers, and challenges. Many techniques have been identified as key candidates for beyond 5G, including but not limited to, Large Intelligent Surfaces (LIS), Cell-free massive MIMO, drone communication, and Millimeter-wave/Terahertz communication. Among others, distributed and cooperative massive MIMO is an enabling technology for many of these beyond 5G systems.

This project focuses on efficient digital baseband processing algorithms and hardware for beyond 5G wireless systems. More specifically, the project will explore system-algorithm-hardware-software co-design to tackle new research challenges in the implementation of distributed massive MIMO technology for Large Intelligent Surfaces (LIS) and Cell-free massive MIMO.  To achieve this objective, researchers from Lund University, Linköping University, and Halmstad University collaborate to conduct three PhD projects on distributed processing algorithm and architecture, low-complexity digital front ends, and high-level design methodologies using many-core processor architecture.

Description
The Halmstad PhD project should attempt to answer the following research questions from the hardware architecture aspect: (1) Considering algorithms targeting beyond 5G applications, what is the suitable processing/architectural infrastructure? (2) Can we automatically map a specific algorithm used for beyond 5G on a distributed many-core platform under both performance/timing and energy constraints? (3) Can we enhance the results of such mapping by incorporating hardware accelerators and increasing the heterogeneity in the distributed architecture? (4) Is it possible to design a distributed coarse-grained reconfigurable architecture (CGRA) that merges the optimized architectures in order to provide a general platform for the family of beyond 5G applications, including future algorithms?

This is a full-time position available from January 1st 2021 (or as soon as possible afterwards) for a period of four years (extended one year at a time, subject to satisfactory progress of the Ph.D. study). Enough resources to fund experiments and conference travels are available.

Department of Business Studies at Halmstad University invites applications for a positions as Ph.D. student (Earlier Stage Researchers/ESRs) to be enrolled in the Innovation Sciences Doctoral Programme at Halmstad University.

LNETN PhD projects
The positions will be part of the project  ‘Legitimation of Newness and Its Impact on EU Agenda for Change’ (LNETN), which is an EU-funded Innovative Training Network (ITN) under the Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). It is designed to train a new generation of Doctoral Graduates with Inter-disciplinary, Inter-sectoral, Inter-technology, International and transferable knowledge, skills and broad vision.

LNETN offers 15 ESR (doctoral candidates) positions. Halmstad University will host 4 of these positions. 3 of these are already appointed. We are now looking for an applicant to:

You should be a passionate high achieving, early stage researcher, wishing to enrich your intellectual development and career potential through Inter-disciplinary, Inter-sectoral, Inter-technology and International mobility, coupled with high level training in research and transferable knowledge and skills.

Eligibility criteria:

- Must, at the date of recruitment, be within the first 4 years (full-time equivalent research experience) of your research career and not have a doctoral degree
- Must not have resided or carried out your main activity (e.g. work, studies) in the country where you have been recruited for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date
- Must demonstrate English proficiency (ability to communicate fluently in English, in oral and written form). This may include a sample of writing or attainment of a degree instructed in English
- Must have a master degree or an equivalent qualification and/or experience at the equivalent level in the academic and/or non-academic environment.

Salary

Den nationella forskarskolan i naturvetenskapernas- och teknikens didaktik, FontD5

Högskolan i Halmstad utlyser en forskarutbildningsplats med avslutning mot doktorsexamen.

Doktorandplatsen utlyses inom ramen för En nationell forskarskola i naturvetenskapernas och teknikens didaktik för lärarutbildare – FontD. Vi söker dig som är intresserad av att forska ämnesdidaktiskt kring frågor relaterat till förskola, grundskola, gymnasieskola (inklusive gymnasial vuxenutbildning) eller lärarutbildning. Vi vänder oss till lärarutbildare, lärare eller andra med erfarenheter som gör det möjligt att undervisa på lärarutbildningen inom naturvetenskapernas didaktik.

 Inom lärarutbildningen finns övergripande forskningsteman som möjliggör olika ämnesdidaktiska frågeställningar för ett doktorandprojekt:

Lärarstudenters ämnesdidaktiska kunskapsutveckling (PCK) i naturvetenskap Digitala verktyg och digitaliseringens effekter inom undervisning och lärande i naturvetenskap Studier av hur ett naturvetenskapligt ämnesinnehåll omvandlas och kommuniceras med hjälp av didaktiska modeller för att främja lärande i naturvetenskap, både i skolan och i lärarutbildningen

Det finns också goda möjligheter att utveckla egna ämnesdidaktiska idéer som du vill beforska. 

Doktorandanställningen på Högskolan i Halmstad ingår som en del av en större satsning på en nationell forskarskola (FontD5) med Linköpings universitet (campus Norrköping) som värduniversitet. Du kommer att erbjudas anställning och arbetsplats på Högskolan i Halmstad, och samtidigt genomföra kurser under de två första åren på Linköpings universitet. Det innebär att du kommer att åka på tvådagarsinternat ca 4 gånger varje termin de två första åren. Forskarskolan beräknas starta 1 september 2020. Studierna leder till doktorsexamen. Du förväntas att aktivt delta i forskarskolans verksamheter och bidra till forskarmiljön på Högskolan i Halmstad.

Behörighet
Grundläggande behörighet har den som har avlagt en examen på avancerad nivå, fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng, varav minst 60 högskolepoäng på avancerad nivå, eller som på annat sätt inom eller utom landet har förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper. Om särskilda skäl åberopas skall dessa motiveras i ansökan.

För särskild behörighet krävs ett av följande alternativ:
A. Lärarexamen, varav kurser motsvarande 30 hp i ett för det naturvetenskapsdidaktiska forskningsfältet relevant ämne inklusive ett examensarbete om minst 15 hp på avancerad nivå.
B.Minst 90 högskolepoäng i ett för det naturvetenskapsdidaktiska forskningsfältet relevant ämne inklusive ett examensarbete om minst 15 hp på avancerad nivå. Särskild behörighet har också den som i annan ordning inom eller utom landet förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper.

Antagning
Antagning sker efter individuell prövning och grundas på en bedömning av den sökandes förmåga att tillgodogöra sig forskarutbildningen. Särskild vikt läggs vid bifogade uppsatser och andra skriftliga publikationer, projektbeskrivning samt övriga meriter.

Villkor
Doktorandanställningen omfattar fyra års heltidsstudier och avslutas med en doktorsexamen. Anställningen som doktorand kan med 20% institutionstjänstgöring, exempelvis med undervisningsuppdrag eller administrativa uppgifter, sträcka sig över fem år. Tillträde 1 september 2020 eller enligt överenskommelse. För att anställning ska bli aktuell krävs att erforderliga beslut fattas. Forskarskolan
Forskarskolan UPGRADE – Lärarutbildning och skolans digitalisering, är en nationell forskarskola som under våren 2020 antar minst nio doktorander. Forskarskolan finansieras av Vetenskapsrådet och syftet är att stärka den digitala kompetensen i lärarutbildningarna och öka andelen lärarutbildare med forskarutbildning. Forskarskolan är ett samarbete mellan nio lärosäten som alla har starka profiler mot digitalisering i skola och samhälle. Som doktorand vid Högskolan i Halmstad kommer du att antas till forskarutbildning vid Göteborgs Universitet.

Forskningsmiljön
Lärarutbildningen vid Högskolan i Halmstad har sedan flera år byggt upp en nationellt profilerad miljö med fokus på forskning om hur digitala verktyg påverkar skola och lärarutbildning. Forskarutbildningens genomförande    
Forskarutbildningen innebär genomförande av ett självständigt avhandlingsarbete, samt deltagande i forskarutbildningens kurser, seminarier och andra aktiviteter.

Urval och antagning
Antagning sker efter individuell prövning. Denna grundas på en bedömning av den sökandes förmåga att tillgodogöra sig forskarutbildningen. Därvid bedöms den sökandes studieresultat från tidigare utbildning, inbegripet kvaliteten på de självständiga, skriftliga arbeten av forsknings-och utredningskaraktär som ingått i utbildningen. Viss vikt läggs vid innehåll och utformning av den egna forskningsplanen, där den sökande redogör för sitt avhandlingsprojekt och dess relevans för den inriktning som anges i beskrivningen ovan.

Den sökande skall vidare ha god social förmåga och klara av att arbete både enskilt och i grupp.

Halmstad University is a Swedish higher education institution located in the city of Halmstad on the Southern West coast of the country.

Halmstad University is organised in four schools, where the School of Business, Engineering and Science hosts the Department of Construction and Energy Engineering. At this department, the Halmstad University District Heating and Cooling Research Group has been active since 2009.

The Department of Construction and Energy Engineering at Halmstad University invites applications for the position as Ph.D. student in Energy Technology with specialisation in District Heating, as soon as possible. The position will be part of the Halmstad University District Heating and Cooling Research Group, which conducts research and education within the field both in national and international contexts, with a focus on efficient and sustainable energy systems solutions for future Europe.

Work assignments
The position is a full-time employment and consists of research studies (80%) and institutional duties (20%). Research studies usually consist of research work (75%) and doctoral courses (25%). 

The overall orientation of the research studies is district heating in future Europe from an energy systems perspective, with main focus on increased integration of renewable energy sources, low-temperature excess heat sources, and 4th generation heat distribution technologies. Main work assignments consist of data gathering, data- and database management, development of methods and approaches, numerical and spatial analysis, literature studies, and writing of reports and scientific articles. Digital work environments include Geographical Information Systems (GIS), relational databases, geodatabases, standard statistical and mathematical software, as well as regular MS Office applications. As the research work to a considerable degree will take place in the context of research projects, a certain degree of travelling for participation in meetings, workshops, and conferences will be part of the assignment.

Institutional duties consist essentially of teaching activities, primarily lead of seminar and laboratory sessions, but as well lecturing, supervision, and course management during the progression of the assignment. Examples of courses where the applicant could contribute include at current Geographical Information Systems, District Heating Technology, Energy Supply, but also other energy related courses may become relevant.

Regarding doctoral courses to be attended, this will be decided by the main supervisor respecting the wishes and interests of the applicant. Suitability of doctoral courses may further be influenced by the selected university of registration, since usually one or two doctoral courses are mandatory at given graduate schools.

Qualifications
Applicants should possess in-depth knowledge and interest concerning district heating and/or energy systems analysis, as well as wide competence in the field of energy technology. Master of Science in Energy Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or other suitable subject. Good communication skills in English, both in speech and writing, is a requirement.

Only persons who are being admitted, or already have been admitted, to doctoral studies at an institution of higher education may be appointed doctoral students. (The Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, § 3). The admission is typically planned together by the main supervisior and the PhD candidate. Beskrivning
Högskolan i Halmstad rustar människor för framtiden genom att skapa värden, driva innovation och utveckla samhället.

Ända sedan starten 1983 har verksamheten präglats av nytänkande. I dag är vi cirka 650 medarbetare och ca 9 000 studenter, har ett brett utbildningsutbud och internationellt välrenommerad forskning som bedrivs i tvärvetenskapliga innovations- och forskningsmiljöer. Akademin för Hälsa och välfärd har såväl en etablerad sjuksköterskeutbildning som nationellt och internationellt uppmärksammad vårdforskning inom omvårdnad. Denna forskning bedrivs främst inom forskningsmiljön Centrum för forskning om Välfärd, Hälsa och Idrott (CVHI). Inom området Hälsa och livsstil bedrivs forskning och forskarutbildning om individers, gruppers och samhällets villkor, ansvar och handlande för att främja hälsa och gynnsamma livsstilsval, om samspelet mellan hälsa och livsstil samt om förändringsprocessers effekter.

Anställningen som doktorand är tidsbegränsad till fyra år, omfattar 100 % och är placerad vid Akademin för hälsa och välfärd. Tillträde 2019-10-01 eller efter överenskommelse. Anställningen avser forskarutbildning fram till doktorsexamen. (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 7§).

Arbetsuppgifter
Anställningen som doktorand avser egen forskarutbildning inom området hälsa och livsstil (100 %). Som anställd doktorand kommer du att bedriva forskning om personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning och deras sysselsättning efter avslutad gymnasiesärskola. Forskningen, som i huvudsak utgörs av registerstudier, ingår i det större projektet ”Inträdet i vuxenlivet - sysselsättningsmönster och individuella förutsättningar för unga vuxna med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning i Sverige” där villkoren för de som gått i särskola står i fokus.

Som doktorand förväntas du, under handledning, arbeta aktivt med eget avhandlingsarbete, gå forskarutbildningskurser, aktivt bidra till forskningsmiljöns utveckling, delta i vetenskapliga seminarier, samarbeta med andra doktorander och forskare inom området. Dina forskningsresultat ska fortlöpande avrapporteras på forskningskonferenser, seminarier och utmynna i en doktorsavhandling.

Kvalifikationer
Behörig att anställas som doktorand är den som antas eller redan har antagits till en forskarutbildning vid en högskola. (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 3§).

För att bli antagen till forskarutbildning inom området Hälsa och livsstil krävs att den sökande har grundläggande behörighet samt särskild behörighet.

Grundläggande behörighet till utbildning på forskarnivå har den som har:

- avlagt en examen på avancerad nivå,
- fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng, varav minst 60 högskolepoäng på avancerad nivå, eller

Vid tillsättning av anställningen kommer avseende att fästas vid de sökandes förmåga att tillgodogöra sig forskarutbildningen (Högskoleförordningen 5 kap 5§). För denna anställning vid Högskolan i Halmstad gäller dessutom följande bedömningsgrunder:

- kunskaper om, erfarenheter av och intresse för registerbaserade studier, epidemiologi och kvantitativ forskningsmetod samt socialförsäkringssystem
- kunskap om och intresse för funktionshinderfrågor

Background

Recent growth in the research activities and the well-established educational programs at the School of Information Technology (ITE) at Halmstad University is enabling a significant expansion.

In 2018, the total research expenditures where over 70MSEK and the number of students exceeded 850. 

Description

The selected Ph.D. student will carry out research on learning representations that can be used to describe the use of a machine, and from that better understand how customers use the companies’ equipment. A second part of the research focuses on analyzing survivability for machines, based on large databases with logged vehicle data, as well as on expanding our work with the COSMO approach, where on-board agents explore relationships among signals, and report interesting deviations to the back-office.

The research will be performed within the CAISR+ profile, and the overall objective is to explore recent machine learning ideas, especially deep neural networks, in the field of predictive maintenance.  The work will be done in collaboration with major vehicle OEMs (Volvo Group and Toyota Material Handling Europe). Therefore, the candidate will for example be spending time both at Halmstad University and at Volvo premises in Gothenburg. The employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time. Applicant will be part of an international research group and an English-speaking environment.

This is a full-time position available from January 2020 (or as soon as possible afterwards) for a period of four years (extended one year at a time, subject to satisfactory progress of the Ph.D. study). Enough resources to fund experiments and conference travels are available. 

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, data science, robotics, mathematics, physics, or a related engineering discipline. A strong background in machine learning, or data mining is desirable. Excellent programming skills, analytical problem solving and organizational abilities are required. 

Students expecting to finalize their degree during the autumn 2019 are also welcome to apply. Only persons who are being admitted, or already have been admitted, to doctoral studies at an institution of higher education may be appointed doctoral students. (The Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, § 3). The student’s ability to benefit from doctoral studies will be taken into account when we make the appointment. (The Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, § 5).

Salary

Doctoral students are employees of the University and paid a salary according to a uniform salary scale, adjusted in relation to the progress in education.

The position includes studies up to a doctoral degree and is annually extended in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, §7. The total employment period is four years but may be extended to a maximum of five years if the student performs 20% teaching or other tasks within the university.

Description

The selected Ph.D. student will carry out research to develop general lifetime models for all vital components in the electrical driveline of heavy duty vehicles. Hybrid and fully electric buses must take advantage of predictive maintenance services based on Machine Learning in order to remain competitive in the market despite their increased cost. Those new technical solutions are enabled by the possibility of collecting more precise and extensive data. Motivating example is the main battery, a component that is responsible for large fraction of the vehicle cost, and is expected to survive over 10 years. In the project we will create a data-driven model for battery health degradation, based on Transfer Learning paradigm utilising recent advancements in the field of deep learning, namely Generative Adversarial Networks. Historical data on failures of electric driveline components is not available due to its technological novelty, thus the right support for drivers, fleet operators and OEMs requires studies and development of new ML techniques. The goal is to enable predictive and prescriptive maintenance solutions that are capable of adapting to rapid changes in technology and continuous arrival of new observational data. This must be bootstrapped by leveraging available expert knowledge in the form of adaptive models for the evolving technology through AI solutions.

The research will be performed within the EVE (Extending life of Vehicles within Electromobility era) project in close collaboration with Volvo Buses and Volvo Group Connected Solutions. Therefore, the candidate will be spending time both at Halmstad University and at Volvo premises in Gothenburg. Halmstad University and the School of Information Technology announce the availability of a Lic.

Ph.D. position in Computer Science and Engineering.

Description

The selected Ph.D. student will carry out research on developing novel generative neural networks to achieve knowledge transfer between various sensor modalities.  The Ph.D. work also involves implementation of novel stochastic regularization methods to make the autonomous vehicle more robust to failures in a multi sensor setup.  The research will be performed within the SHARPEN (Scalable Highly Automated vehicles with Robust PErceptioN) project in close collaboration with Volvo Technology AB. Therefore, the candidate requires spending time both at Halmstad University and Volvo in Gothenburg. 

The selected Ph.D. student will be responsible for conducting research within the SHARPEN project and for participating in the required Ph.D. course activities. The employment also includes teaching responsibilities corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time. Applicant will be part of an international workgroup and an English-speaking environment. 

This is a full-time position available from April 2019 for a period of one year with a possibility of a further extension, subject to satisfactory progress of the Lic. Ph.D. study and funding availability. Enough resources to fund experiments and conference travels are available.

The position is at CAISR (Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research), which is a long-term research program on intelligent systems at the School of Information Technology at Halmstad University. The focus of the centre is on aware intelligent systems, computer systems that are human aware, situation aware and to some extent “self-aware".
